What do a spinster, a pig and an orphan have in common? Do you know what a portmanteau is? What would inspire a Tulsa defense attorney to write a story about a young girl masquerading as a boy? And just what in the world is a Ruff Riter? All these questions will be answered at the Days Inn & Suites in Poteau on Saturday, November 10, starting at 2:00 P.M. in the Board Room.

Three marvelous fiction writers are coming together to present “So You Want to Be a Writer” and to sign their newest book, called Foxy Statehood Hens and Murder Most Fowl. The book signing is sponsored by Green Country Ruff Riters, a local writing organization. (Okay, so now you know the answer to one of the questions.)

The writing team previously collaborated on another book, Chik-Lit for Foxy Hens, with the help of fourth “Hen” Sharon Ervin. It is comprised of four novellas of “over-forty” romance. It was such fun they decided to do it again, this time with three mystery novellas set around the time Oklahoma became a new state.

Oklahoma author Peggy Fielding teaches writing part-time at Tulsa Community College . Jackie King studied journalism at the University of Oklahoma and has published a number of short stories about women and women’s problems. Paula Watkins Alfred, a veteran defense attorney with the Tulsa County Public Defender Office, currently handles appeals after doing a lengthy stint in the trial division. She is a graduate of Poteau High School .

Join the Ruff Riters for a free cup of coffee as we celebrate our state centennial, celebrate womanhood, proclaim the strength of character that makes Oklahoma grand and enjoy a hearty laugh with the Foxy Hens.
